Here's a simple, inexpensive and quick Christmas ornament for kids (and adults) to make. My four year old daughter made the one pictured above in about ten minutes. I did have to help her for one part which I share in the directions. An older child could do this completely on their own. They could even make the ornament more complex by creating a pattern with the pom poms. There's lots of possibilities with this project so get creative and have fun!
Supplies:
One styrofoam ball with a 2 inch diameter
50 small twinkle pom poms (approximately) - you could use regular pom poms as well
50 straight pins (approximately)
Ribbon
Place a pin through each twinkle pom pom. You might want to do this part yourself depending on the child's age. I did this step for my daughter.
Fold ribbon in half and tie in a knot at the bottom to make a loop. Pin the knot of the ribbon to the styrofoam ball. Cover up ribbon ends by placing the pom poms over them. Continue to push the pom pom pins into the entire ball until none of the styrofoam is showing. Done. Supervise young children when they use the pins.

have i told you that i think you are awesome. my girls and i will have so much fun making these. can't wait.
Next time I'm at the dollar store or craft store I'm buying the stuff for these. What a totally simple, yet awesome craft. My girls loves craft time, and lately I've been running out of ideas for something new to try. This definitely fits the bill!
Thanks so much!!!

With the pompoms that looks so cool. Last year we actually did something I remembered from grade school, straight pin through a bead, through a sequin. This looks easy for little hands though and easily covers the styrofoam, very nice!
Love the idea of pom poms on Christmas trees! I'm also liking the projects you've posted for the holidays so far, simple yet original, especially the doll card! I think they would be great for your craft book, no?
This is such a fun idea! I love it...I may be covering my whole tree in these this year. My daughter would love to help!
This is adorable! I have a bag of little red and green sparkly pompoms I picked up at a craft swap. I know exactly what to do with them now. :-) Thanks so much!
So fun! My tree is going to be full of some fun crafty ornaments, thanks to you!!
i can imagine it hanging on your xmas tree, so pretty with the gleam of lights =)

oh i just love this, what a great idea! i'll be posting about this on my blog (w/credits and link.) thanks for sharing your creativity (again!)
This is such a sweet idea!
Totally cute, and so very vibrant!
Pretty and sparkly! On the to-do list.
I'm going to try this right away with my grandson.
When I make ornaments with styro balls I use a knitting needle to poke a hole through the middle and thread the ribbon all the way through. This holds up better than a ribbon that is pinned in.
very nice !
Super cute! Thanks for sharing!
For the last few days I carried around a pitcher full of these little balls and had my little one stringing them for a garland. This worked perfectly for the center where we hung them, just today. Thanks for the idea.
This is fabulous, I can't wait to try it with my kids, thanks for sharing.

I like to make ornaments each year with the grandkids. They love
making things and we all have fun making memories. I
like to take pictures of the process for scrapbooks. These will give
precious memories for years to come.
