Silhouette Giveaway & Review

One of the fun things about having a craft blog is that once in a while I get to test out new craft products and sometimes even give them away! Today I'm going to be sharing a little bit about my experience with the Silhouette SD and their tattoo paper.

The Silhouette is a digital cutting tool that works through your computer. It allows you to cut all kinds of shapes along with designing your own shapes as well. Being able to design my own cut images was the most appealing thing about the machine to me. It's nice to not be limited to just the Silhouette designs (as cute as they may be). The Silhouette can cut paper, heat transfers, adhesive vinyl, stickers, and tattoo paper.

For cutting pre-made images, the Silhouette is pretty easy to use. Like any piece of technology, it does take some time to learn all the in and outs. I'm currently still learning how to design my own images. There software is very similar to photo editing software so many of tools I'm already familiar with.

If you're like me, you might be wondering how the Silhouette can cut out the exact image of an item printed on a separate printer? Answer, when you set up your item to print and cut, it also prints registration marks. The Silhouette then reads the registration marks and knows exactly where the printed item is. I'm telling you this because when I first set out to make the tattoos, I was a little hesitant because I wasn't sure how this part would work. I was concerned I would have to line up the images to the blade or something but that wasn't the case at all. It ended up being really easy to print and cut the tattoos.

    We looked into a silhouette when we were designing our wedding invitations - my husband created a pop-up barn, in which there were two barn doors (a yee-haw, or an aw shucks), and the recipient returned whichever card contained the appropriate response for them. We could have saved so many hours with an X-acto knife, had we been fortunate enough to have the silhouette! With my memories of invite-crafting finally fading, I'm ready to start the next silhouette-worthy project - I've turned several of our favorite wedding photos into simple silhouettes that I plan to make into a wall hanging. They would look so nice cut with the silhouette!

    I would use a Silhouette to label so many things for kids, I have seen a number of crafts done by the Silhouette that makes me wish I had one :o) including embelishing tshirts!

    oh man- so many things! off of the top of my head, for cutting stencils for glass etching, and for painting easy art; Making embellishments for cookie tins; cutting out text that isn't wonky (I'm great with an exacto knife, but not that great!, you can send fabric through that things too, can't you? or there's a special interfacing?     I have seen these wonderful machines and I think that I would make all kinds of quotes and words and numbers and slap them up on every wall in my home and my pre-k classroom.     One way I would love to use the Silhouette is to make stencils for etching glass. I love how endless the possibilities are with a Silhouette. If I had my own I would make countless gifts for everyone I know! Thanks for the opportunity to do so!

    If I won the Silhouette I would use it to make cards and other projects for the elderly and Military men and women. I also love to help out teachers with their class room projects. During holidays I make gift boxes and fill them with candy for the kids in my grand daughter's class.

    I have been wanting one of these for quite a while. I, like you, like the fact that these don't require you to buy their cartridges.

    I'm really wanting to make vinyl decals and also cut out the circles for my button maker. Accurately cutting those is a big pain! Also, it would be awesome for my boyfriend's beer labels that we cut out with x-acto knives and tiny paper scissors.

    I think it'd be nice to decorate some photo album covers and my kids would want to use the tattoo paper. The ability to design your own artwork and have it cut it is huge. I never seem to like the premade designs.

    I babysit a TON of kids, and they absolutely LOVE IT when i bring over crafty things (i just recently taught a group of 7-11 year olds -- boys too!) how to Crochet -- we're all making Harry Potter scarves for the movie coming out :-D -- so to have something like this, where we could make scrapbooks and cards, and tattoos would just be AWESOME.

    I would use the Silhouette to make my parties AWESOME! Banners, cupcake liners and toppers, invitations, favors, etc!! I would also LOVE to use it to make personalized gifts in JAPANESE... can you imagine baby onesies with the baby's name printed on it with Japanese? So cute!
