Chopstick Rests That Rock

Chopstick rests run the gamut from traditional crests to baseball gloves. And with that as my inspiration, I decided to make some of my own. You'll find this to be a very simple and inexpensive craft project. Perhaps paired with a set of chopsticks it would make a lovely gift for a hostess. Directions below.

Supplies:
smooth black rocks - you can find these at the dollar store and craft stores, often by the glass vases or floral area

scrap booking rub-ons - most craft stores carry these - you can choose any motif you like, flowers, letters, etc.

Mod Podge - or any other sealant that is nontoxic

foam craft brush

Directions
1. Wipe down all rocks with a damp cloth to remove any debris

2. Center your rub-on on the rock and transfer it to the rock (refer to picture above). Directions to transfer the image will be on the rub-on packaging.

3. Place five coats of Mod Podge over the top of the rock. Make sure you let each coat dry before applying the next layer.

4. Let the rocks dry for a day. Done.

*To clean the chopstick rests wipe with a damp soapy cloth.

I think it is a good idea.
You make good use of simple material.
Thoes are super Kawaii.
I must go to 100yen shop to find some black stone this evening.

Those are totally cute! It made me want to add our "H" monogram - with some with alphabet rubber stamps, embossing ink and embossing powders. If you did a final layer of mod podge I bet that would work and keep it food friendly.

These are beautiful. They would make great wedding favors... for someone getting married.

I have a million black rocks (I used them as part of my centerpiece for my wedding).

I love it, great idea.

Love the idea! My son was just asking today if we could eat with chopsticks. The ironic thing is we haven't mastered that skill. That might be a good diet!

I saw your kids tunes and wanted to recommend Trout Fishing in America and Bill Harley. Sadly, my boys have outgrown them. But, they got lots of mileage in our CD player. Give them a listen.

I enjoy dropping into you blog. Thanks for the ideas.

What a wonderful idea! They look wonderful!

To keep them from "skidding" on some table tops, you could glue felt circles to the bottom!

I generally eat my sushi so quick without putting my chopsticks down...but these are so cute I'll have to make them anyway! Love your site! :D

Becky,

Just a go week with only using chopsticks and you'll be a pro.

I've never heard of Bill Harley but I'll make sure to check it out.

Well done tutorial!

Hi Ginger,

When I said "black stone", I just meant the polished black rocks that you find in the floral section. They're often used to fill vases in floral arrangements. Was that what you were asking?

I wasn't referring to the other meaning - a Muslim object of reverence
