Edible Mini Jack O' Lanterns

I was peeling a clementine when it occurred to me that they look like mini pumpkins. At first I thought it would be fun to add a little green paper stem to the top of one. As I thought over the idea it evolved into mini jack o' lanterns. I got out my edible markers and quickly went to work. First I washed the fruit to make sure there was no wax or residue on the skin. Then I just drew a cute little face onto the clementine. If you can't find clementines, oranges will do.

I can't wait to slip one into my son's lunch box and surprise him!

Sneak a few into the fruit bowl and see if anyone notices.

  1. I did this with mikan last year, we had a Halloween party for little ones and the moms wanted to reduce the amount of candy given so it was mini mikans instead :o)

  2. does it have to be an edible marker? because the peel isn't eaten, I don't think that a permanent marker would effect the fruit.

  3. Jojoebi,
    Great minds think alike ;)

    Pi,
I'm not sure but I'm using edible markers to be on the safe side. Some of those permanent markers smell so toxic. I wouldn't want them anywhere close to my food.

  6. Oh, so sweet! If you didn't have any edible markers, you could probably also just lightly scrape off the zest of the clementine, and use the white pith underneath like a reverse applique type thing... Very cute, I need to get some tangerines!
