Brighten up sweaters and jackets with charms in your jewelry box. Simply attach them to the zipper for a little extra color. If your charms only come with jump rings, add a large
lobster clasp to the jump ring to easily take it on and off the zipper. Just make sure to take off the charm before washing.
I experimented with all kinds of charms including this cell phone charm. It looks just as good as the jewelry charms.
Juicy charm - my daughter always likes to sneak this one out of my jewelry box.
Here's a little blast from my past, plastic charms. I used to have a purple plastic chain necklace with about 20 of these charms hanging off it. Did anyone else have one of these necklaces?
ah! yes, I had a purple plastic chain too. and the vinyl record and the anchor charms. I don't remember what else I had. sometimes my friends and I would pop the clippy part out and wear the charms like clip-on earrings. they'd start hurting after a while, though. we thought we were so cool.
ReplyDeleteWell, another affirmation of the fact that I'm old - my daughter had one of the necklaces. I've always loved the way charms sound when they clink together and I have 5 charm bracelets that I started when I turned 15. Love them.
ReplyDeleteIt's a creative ideal..Love it.
ReplyDeleteSeeing that record charm made me think "oh yeah...I had one of those!"
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteI did have one of those necklaces, I used to go to a local flea market where one guy had a stall with all sorts of cool ones.
OMG! I had a ton of those charms! ah the 80's!
ReplyDeleteYes!! I too had those plastic charms! The record and the anchor definitely stick out in my mind. Man, wish I still had them! lol
ReplyDeleteI had a ton of those plastic ones! probably still do ...somewhere...
ReplyDeletecute idea, my little girl would go crazy for these! I had a yellow plastic chain and a million of those charms. I think it's still somewhere in my folks' house!
ReplyDeleteI'ts a charming idea, but a little bit dangerous. Be careful, the charms can get trapped and the kid could be in danger. Not for babies or toddlers. Shorten the cord.
ReplyDeleteI had that record charm too. How fun what a great memory!
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot that those necklaces existed!!! I wish I still had mine, but thanks for the memory.
ReplyDeletei love. love. love your blog.
ReplyDeletei am new to the bloggin' world but i somehow stumbled across your blog and LOVE it. you are one talented lady.
i have a crafty blog too, and people like you are what inspired me to do it!
keep up the good work!
I've been having fun reading everyone's comments. Apparently the record charm was a popular one, who knew.
ReplyDeleteMonica,
Thank you for all the kind words. I stopped by your site and left a comment.
I always wanted one of those necklaces, but my mom said no. I understand why, but I SOOOOOOO wanted one!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I totally forgot about those necklaces and charms! What a flashback; I adored all the plastic goodness. Where did you find the retro charms?
ReplyDeletethose are very pretty charms, every kid will love such accessory
ReplyDeletehappy weekend!
J & M Manire,
ReplyDeleteThe charms are from my childhood. I've always liked to collect things, even as a child. That's why I still have them to this day. Now my daughter plays with them. I didn't take a picture of all of them, there's also a blow dryer, ski's, dolphin and a pocket mirror charm.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting :)
Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteI had some of these charms when I was a kid. They were on a belt though. The belt had flower cut outs all around and each hole had a charm hanging from it. I thought I was the coolest kid in town when I wore it. It would make a jingling noise when I walked.
I had one too!!! Wow, that brought back some memories!
ReplyDeleteyour girl is a doll!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I had these but haven't thought about them in YEARS! I wonder whatever happen to those...
ReplyDeletegreat idea- i used to have one of those- dont know where it is at moment-will have to find it!
ReplyDeleteI never had one of those necklaces, but my younger sister did. She was obsessed over the summer with all things 80's and bought one off eBay. :)
ReplyDeleteOhmigod! I totally had one of those necklaces, but it was a white chain. It was one of my favorite treats to go to our local flea market on LI on Sundays to pick out more charms to add to it! I wonder if I still have any in my parents' house?
ReplyDelete(PS Did you get my 80s teen lingo in the first sentence?)
Awesome! My daughter just broke the zipper on her coat!
ReplyDeleteI have a TON of those little plastic charms in a box at my Mom's house! Thanks for remind me - those are perfect for a 5 year old's zipper!
I do this on my girls zippers as well. Considering her little fingers is too small to grab the zipper.
ReplyDeleteSimple and sweet. Love the concept.

Blast from the past! I had a purple plastic chain necklace with charms also. Good Times!
ReplyDeleteI had a turquoise chain with all of those charms on it! I wonder where that thing ended up? Makes me wish I had it now.
ReplyDeleteI never seen anyone use cell phone charm this way...it's unique and very claver! I have a lot old cell phone charms, now I know where to re-use them.
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I had one of those plastic chains too. What a great idea!

oh I even dont think about it...Thanks for for cute zipper idea..
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering what those clasps were called, now I know, lobster clasps. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI still have mine!!! I probably have over 50 charms! Never could bare to get rid of it...I need to break that out and sport it around town some time. HAH! :)
ReplyDeleteOMG I had about a hundred of those things.. I had them hanging from every shelf in my room...
ReplyDeleteI had one of those! I had to save up my allowance for it because my folks thought it was about the stupidest thing ever but I LOVED it. I think my best charm was the little tourquise frying pan with a wee little fried egg in it.
ReplyDeleteI had a yellow chain!! I don't even remember where we used to buy those charms, do you? I had that record album charm! I remember having a little harmonica, too.
ReplyDeletegood times
