Craft Project: Easy Decorative Pillows

Someone insisted on being in this picture.

See that little shirt on the pillow, that's a Barbie shirt. But it's not just any shirt, it's one that my mother played with, one that I played with, and the same one that my daughter played with. It represents three generations of women and three generations of Barbie dolls. I'm not sure how much longer the clothing and the dolls will hold up so I decided to preserve the memories with this decorative pillow. You could really take this concept and do just about anything with it. Perhaps create a pillow out of a vintage bonnet for a baby nursery. Endless possibilities.

Barbie doll my mother owned. Now my daughter plays with it.

Supplies:
One pillow case - I made mine out of linen. You could also buy one, it's up to you.
Thread
Sewing needle
Barbie shirt - or whatever you choose to use

Pin item to the center of pillowcase. Using a running stitch, sew the item to the top of the pillowcase. If sewing a shirt, only sew through the bottom layer of the shirt so no stitches show (refer to picture). Place pillow case on pillow and admire your work.

  1. So very cute! I too have all of my Mum's Barbie dolls and clothes from then she was little. I dunno if I could bring myself to turn them into something decorative, but they sure are pretty to look at and fun to play with sometimes!

  6. Kaye Prince,

I only used the one shirt, for the pillow, we've got about 3 Barbie cases filled with clothes and Barbies so that's why I was able to give up one shirt for the project.

    Casserole,

Thank you post about the pillow on Craft Gossip. I stopped by and left a comment.
