How To Make Inexpensive Photo Invitations

I'm sure you've seen these kind of invitations before. You upload your picture to a premade format and pay anywhere from $1 - $3 for one photo card. Well, I've got a cheaper way to make these and it doesn't involve a coupon code. Here's what I do:

I design my own invitation in Photoshop (you can use any digital editing programs). I make the measurements the same as I plan on having them printed. This way I don't have to worry about any cropping. Then, I save the file at the highest resolution possible.

Last, I upload these to a drugstore's online photo department. I have them printed just like a regular photo. Then I just pick them up an hour later. It's easy, quick, and cheap to do. The invitations ended up only costing $2.85 for a set of 15.

*If you've never done this before, I recommend having just one invitation printed to make sure it looks just how you want. Then order as many as you wish.

P.S. Give you one guess what the theme of the party is going to be.

I did this for my daughter's birth announcements. It also allows for great, personalized cards. For her 2nd birthday, I took pictures of her playing with each gift, purposely leaving room on one side of the image. I then added a semi-transparent text-box with the individual thank you note typed in. The thank you note recipients were floored, and couldn't figure out how I did that. :)

What do you do for envelopes? Is there a photo size that goes well with a specific envelope size? This is the only thing holding me back from doing something like this for my xmas cards this year.

Almiiraz & Kay,

Yep, it's going to be a Hello Kitty party at request of the birthday girl.

Adnohr,

I purchase my envelopes at Michaels. They have all different sizes. I just pick which ever one fits best. It's not always the exact size but it works.

Hope this helps :)

Ahh! This is a really good idea. I mean, REALLY good! I am now officially not ordering anymore cards from those online peeps and making my own. So smart!

LOVE IT!

I've done this before for Christmas and anniversary parties and had NO problems from the store, in fact the clerk congratulated me at finding an inexpensive solution at one location!

You can buy envelopes at staples that are just slightly larger than 4x6. They say "perfect for sending pictures" on the outside. Then just print regular 4x6 pictures. You don't even need to photoshop if you don't want to. Walmart has free photo "frames" that have characters and that you can type in with their online upload thingy. But once you try photoshop, you'll never be able to keep your hands off your photos again. :)
