Regretsy By April Winchell
Recently I received a copy of the book Regretsy from Random House Publishing. Some of you may be familiar with the site
Regretsy, a site about bizarre handmade items selling on Etsy. Well now there's a book documenting all the strange items April came across while writing for the site. All the handmade items are broken down into seven chapters, (Pet Humiliation, Toys and Dolls, Vulvacraft, Decor, Art, WTF, and Christmas). Each item features the actual seller's online listing along with April's commentary. Included in the book is a chapter for the sellers to reply back to April's comments and the book which I personally thought was very smart to do.
Now on to the giveaway, I'm giving away one copy of the book
Regretsy.
Warning, there is some adult language in this book.
To enter the giveaway, please leave a comment telling me something that you regretted buying. One entry per household. Please leave an email address so I can contact you if you win. The last day to enter the contest is Monday, May 31, 2010. I'll announce the winner Tuesday on this post and email them. If I do not hear back from the winner after two weeks, I will choose a new winner. U.S. residents only.
Contest Closed
Congratulations to
Amy, you're the winner of the Regretsy Giveaway!
I think Regretsy is hilarious!! I have to say one of the many things I've regretted buying was a whole (and I mean 75) metal cookie cutters to make treats for all the holidays. I think I used 4 of them once!
ReplyDeleteI regret buying a futon mattress about 6 years ago to replace the cushions on a wood frame couch, it fit but was uncomfortable and looked really bad. We had to live with it for years until we put it to the curb for someone else to take and broke down and bought a new couch last fall.
ReplyDeleteI don't often regret anything major... but I admit that the breadmaker was probably kind of a waste of money. We SOOO don't make bread.

Hmm...probably the thing I regretted most was buying a fake rock cave for my bearded dragon right before we finished building her a new cage...it didn't fit and she hated being in it
ReplyDeleteNot much in the way of regrets, except maybe the old book with a secret compartment to hide a flask. What was I thinking?
ReplyDeleteI love that site- can't wait to see the book! I regret buying a razor scooter...for myself. Embarassing.
ReplyDeleteRegretsy looks fabulously fun! Hmmm...I can't think of any recent regrettable purchases...I regret getting horrid perms when I was in high school...what was I thinking? LOL
ReplyDeleteI regret buying Avatar on blu-ray because it's a really boring movie.
ReplyDeleteHow,oh how,do I narrow it down to only one thing that I regret buying?
ReplyDeleteBeing addicted to thrift stores, garage sales and flea markets,I but stuff with the intent of making something so,so,so wonderful with them. Some times I do,some times I think..."Did i actually give someone money for this?" for but this?" Enough babbling...my answer is(drum roll please) an eight room doll house the size of my kitchen table. It was falling apart, full of spiderwebs with hand carved people that look like original caveman."With a little love, this house will be a family heirloom for my two year old daughter" HA HA HA That two year old is now 19 and has never seen this house because it is in the rafters in the garage. Maybe she will fix it up for her daughter one day...I can dream can't I ???
What a fun and silly sounding book! I'm not one to regret much but if I had to choose it'd be the numerous cute t-shirts I'd gotten that turned out to be not-so-cute after arriving in my closet at home ^_^U
ReplyDeleteHi...Its Peg again,ya know, the one with the giant dollhouse in the garage...heres my email address crainqueen@aol.com...I got so carried away...oops....Peg
ReplyDeleteI regretted buying a futon - so uncomfortable!
ReplyDeleteHaha. That's awesome. I regret buying hundreds, nay, thousands of dollars of rubber stamps when they were all the rage. I guess my children will inherit them.
ReplyDeleteProbably the thing I regret buying most is a new pillow. There wasn't anything wrong with my old one, I just felt like getting a new one. The problem is, my new pillow is so much more comfortable so now all I do is sleep!!

I regret buying a custom pattern to make my own bras. still haven't tried it. :\
ReplyDeleteI regret buying 7 pairs of fishnet tights in high school... I look back and think "really?!" lol klghstblr@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteVery cute book. Though my example is not so DIY-ish, I regret buying the latest and greatest hair styling tool (tools, actually, multiple regrets here) thinking they would magically transform my stick straight hair into gorgeous curls/waves. Ha! I don't have the time or patience before work, and besides, I think the heat styling makes my hair even worse. Live and learn, I guess.
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway.

I kinda-sorta regret buying a bunch of craft pumpkins that were on sale. They are huge, and plans to decorate them, paint them, collage them, whatever them have fallen to the side as kittens have taken over our lives. So we've got this pile of giant fake pumpkins taking up a good part of the bookcase.
ReplyDeletecool giveaway!
ReplyDeletewe were cutting costs and bought a secondhand electric heater for 10bucks at a yardsale. it said " as new", and came with the instructions in plastic and all. wow! i thought.. later that day, it started smoking and then 5seconds later, completly blew up. scary, funny, and thank god my hubby had it out in his shop trying it out when it did. it stunk for months!
some people! (( as new my foot...))
10bucks completly dumbly wasted. regret.
My handmade regretful purchase was (what I thought) a charming geometric, hand carved, locally made, signed Christmas icicle ornament carved from some beautiful walnut wood with dimensional facets lovingly carved on each of the 4 sides, culminating into a pointed bottom, mimicking a graceful icicle hanging from the end of a tree branch.
ReplyDeleteMy husband's first reaction was: "what's with the gnarly vampire stake ornament?"
It was promptly removed, perhaps I'll resell it to a Twilight fan celebrating the Yule???
I love regretsy! Hilarious stuff on there. I totally regret buying a used DVD version of Bridget Jones' Diary ... Two. I was not aware it was the second one. My bad. This may only be rivaled by spending $30 on one of those "tie and wear 30 different ways" skirts/dresses in a terrible fabric that I wear zero ways.

This book looks hilarious! I bought a set of silver flatware that I instantly regretted. I dont like the pattern (sort of modern) and have never used it. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDelete...a really neat pair of slacks because I was sure I'd fit into them when I wanted to wear them ...but the chocolate won.
ReplyDeleterwrw@comcast.net
I regret buying most pieces of clothing that I own. I'm really hoping someone nominates me for What Not to Wear!
ReplyDeleteA jumbo bag of tortilla chips. Fatty snacks from the Korean grocery store that have no nutritional value whatsoever. That box of chunky monkey ice cream.
ReplyDeleteAll. in. one. day.
I'm on a diet. Sigh.

I regret buying a computer desk a few years ago. I have a laptop now, so I'm never going to use the thing, and it takes up so much space.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this book!

i regret any purchase i made at walmart. because really? if it's from walmart, it's disposable.
ReplyDeleteI love Regretsy. The book sounds like a fun read. As for what I regret buying--so many things. Well, one of my first mistakes was a very bright yellow dress with big geometric shapes in different also very bright colors. As if that wasn't bad enough, I got yellow -- yes, yellow, patent leather shoes to wear with it. To said it was "loud" would be an understatement.
ReplyDeleteI love regretsy! I visit almost every day for a good laugh. I would say the thing I regretted buying most is our old bedding. Loved it at the time and hated it after a year. It was too dark
ReplyDeleteAMAZING! Regardless of whether or not the random generator picks me, this book MUST be in my posession. What I regret buying? Some art prints. Turned out to be 8 X 10 computer papers. With some RAD designs. haha

Book looks like it belongs in my library.... the one thing I regret is buying a huge purse, oh sure it holds everything I need and completely organized, but I don't need back pain on top of it all! Don't let mdh know though.

I bought a handy dandy broom and mop hanger that mounts on a wall or behind a door. The principle was sound - little wheels spring locked the handles in place, holding the mop or broom up off the floor...except the plastic didn't retain it's oomph, and mops and brooms began clattering to the floor at odd moments, and especially if the cat walked by. horrendous noise, and poor Polly!
ReplyDeleteLove regretsy!!! There are lots of things I regret buying, but in particular the million used cross stitch patterns that I hoarded and will prob never use.

I regret buying pretty much everything from Wal-Mart. It's all crap. Luckily I have yet to get burned from an online purchase (knock on wood!)
ReplyDeleteRegretsy makes me laugh. I really regret buying the cappucino maker that broke almost immediately. We never got it fixed and hung onto it for a year before we finally threw it out.
ReplyDeleteI love Regretsy's 'WTF?' attitood!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest 'regretful' purchase has to be my Footspa.
I think I've used it about 4 times in total. The water goes cold, it's never as satisfying as the promise; I can't hear myself think when it's on and the last time I used it there were orange sparks flying about under the water which I didn't think was a hugely good idea so I withdrew my feet pronto!

I totally regret buying the engagement ring for my ex-fiancee.

I regret buying baby clothes for a newborn. All they wear is a diaper anyways.
ReplyDeleteMy college education.
ReplyDeleteI regret buying the DVD set of Felicity: Season 2. I only watched the first two disks because I quickly realized that watching TV was a different experience at 19. It was promptly shelved. Then hidden after I moved in with my partner. See also: hidden Roswell Season 1 DVDs.
ReplyDeleteI regret trying to make a plaid vest and pants back in the '70's. LOUD white, red, yellow and black. I never finished it, it even traveled with me when I married and moved away. Finally threw it in the trash. (Shudder)

A full sized highchair. There are so many other cute diy variations that don't take up so much space and are so much prettier.
ReplyDeletethis sounds great. I don't know what i've regretted buying quite honestly. Maybe an outfit or something

I regret buying inline skates. The very first thing I did when I put them on is to fall and break my wrist.
ReplyDeleteRegretsy is so great! I regret buying too many bath and body products when I have coupons for them. I use them so infrequently!
ReplyDeleteI regretted buying the espresso maker...when we already had a coffee pot and the French press!
ReplyDeleteJennifer, jennem22 at yahoo dot com
My current Regretsy purchase is an automatic coffee maker, which has proven itself to be a design disaster. I also regret that recently I fooled myself into purchasing hairstyling rollers and other 'styling' aids, thinking I could style myself into lovely tresses, I still can't believe I even thought I could take the time out of my busy days for this notion.

This book looks sooo funny, i already want it!
ReplyDeleteI regret buying so many toys, many of them were junk. I bet my husband regrets the fact i have a credit card... :-)
Thanks for the giveaway!

My regretted purchase is *the* coolest pair of jeans. Oh, yeah. Punky Brewster woulda rocked them HARD. They were four colored: front of one leg turquoise, front of the other white, the back of the turquoise leg was white and the back of the white leg was yellow. With different color pockets and belt loops. Oh, yeah. They were awesome. I had to have them, and yet never wore them. {sigh}

I regret purchasing just about every new purse or pair of shoes I get. I have a collection and I'm very bad at controlling my impulses.
ReplyDeleteThis is totally new to me. How funny. Thanks for opening up this world to me.
ReplyDeleteAnna
congratulations to the winner!
ReplyDeletei missed the contest *sigh*
