San Francisco Kite Festival

Over the weekend we attended the San Francisco Family Kite Festival. I found out about the festival through a site called Savy Cities. And if anyone is interested, the site is a great resource for finding things to do on the cheap. Or in this case free which is even better. The kite festival sounded fun so we decided to check it out. Here are few pictures from the day.

There was a booth set up for kids to make their own kites for free. My children must of played with the kites for a good half hour. They would have played longer but I had to pull them away for lunch.

Large puffer fish kite

This never made it up into the air. I'm not sure if it could fly or not. I still thought it was pretty cool. Random fact about me, I heart puffer fishes.

See that guy in the photo with the skateboard? He had a giant kite pulling him back and fourth which is apparently called extreme kite flying. Who knew? There were also some vehicles that looked like go carts but we didn't get to see anyone ride them.

So, what did you guys do over the weekend? Try anything new? Please share.

Oh I would have loved to attend this festival with my girls. That puffer fish kite is really extraordinary. What a fun weekend activity. We didn't fly a kite this weekend, but looked for monarchs. It was fun too.

KJ@letsgoflyakite,

Monarch hunting sounds like a lot of fun too. You always come up with such creative activities for your girls.

That cool puffer fish is more like lawn art, not designed to fly but decorate.

Was there a bunch of wind? Kiters on skates & boards don't take as much as those 3 wheeled carts, but do need some wind to move you along. There are tons of great kite shops and events on the coasts. Not so much in Colorado, but we try ;-)

This looks like it was such fun! Was it in Marina? My sister used to live in that neighborhood.

This weekend I had Saturday brunch with my dad as we do almost every week; as we both get older spending time with him means even more to me. And then I bought my very first DSLR! I'll be spending next weekend trying to get the hang of using all the bells and whistles on it.

Little Ol' Liz,

There was just the right amount of wind for kite flying. I don't think there was enough wind for the go-carts.

Jennifer,

Yes, it was held at the Marina. It's so beautiful over there and it seems like it would be a great place to live.

Congrats on your new camera!

Awww, if I had known about this I would have dragged hubby to bring us there. I better watch out next time around. My little boy will surely love seeing those kites!
