Mohs Surgery Update

A few of you have been asking me about how I'm doing with the skin cancer issue. I just wanted to give you a quick update and let you know I had the Mohs surgery today. It went well and I'm now skin cancer free. The hardest part about the process was that they had to cut out so much skin. The left picture above is a rough sketch of how much they took out. I decided on going with a little drawing of my face instead of shocking you with a bloody wound photo. My scar is bigger than I thought it would be. Right now I'm a little down about it. I'm sure I'll be feeling more myself in a week. I'm just glad I don't have to go through any more surgeries, hooray!

Once again, thanks for all your concerns, prayers and love. It's really appreciated. (((hugs)))

I am relieved to hear all is well. On the plus side, it seems like there is so much one can do for scarring to make it less noticible. I'm sure you'll get all sorts of helpful ideas. :) Hang in there and recover!!

Yay, you are all finished and everything went well! That's the best. You are such a cutie, and in my opinion, this victory scar (soon to be smaller than it is now, most certainly) is going to add distinction and character!

I'm so glad to hear you're ok! (had been worried when I didn't hear any updates here, but at least you were blogging still!)

I didn't realize you'd been going through this Jessica... But I'm so glad to hear you're cancer-free now. What a huge relief that must be. I'm certain your scar will soon fade and soften and, as Michelle says, add character to your very pretty face.

I'm glad to hear you got through that ok. Its scary when you realize how much skin they remove. I had to have a huge chunk of eyebrow removed. I have no tips on helping the scar, sorry! But you will heal up nicely I am sure. They do a wonderful job sewing those wounds on the face up!

About the Sew Sunny homestyle, I could not find it anywhere except ebay and amazon. Its a nice little book too!
Take care!

You are a Warrior who has gone toe-to-toe with Cancer. No one leaves the battlefield without a little damage. Cheers to your victory and celebrate.

Lots of vitamin E on it! :) I am not a doctor, but I am a nursing student and we hear about it a lot. You are so pretty that it won't even make a difference. Glad you got rid of a serious problem, get really, really well soon :)

good to hear that it all went well and you are now clear, that must be such a relief.
You will have to think of a good story for your scar - attacked by flying piranha? snake bite?

Three years ago, I drove my friend to Mohs surgery. The process was exhausting, and she felt pretty mauled at the end of the day.

She's healed beautifully (back to her lovely self) and (even more importantly) remains cancer-free.

I had to have huge places removed on my back hip and several on my thighs and it is shocking when you see how much skin and how deep they have to go. I am so glad to hear that you are better and cancer free.

I am so happy for you that you got it taken care of! Woohoo bye bye cancer!

Hope it heals quickly.

As you're very pretty, the scar won't be noticeable.

I'm glad you are on the road to recovery....my family has to watch out for that nasty bugger too. Take good care of that scar and it will fade greatly.

I'm glad it went well and is all out!

I had a mole removed from my face back in June. I used Mederma for Kids (haha, it was a fun color!) but it's made a HUGE difference in the appearance of the scar (which is approximately the same place yours appears to be). I recommend getting some & applying it 3 times a day after your face heals--you can't put it on an open wound, but really! It made such a difference. I'll always have a scar, but it's not so noticeable.

Lavender essential oil is great for helping wounds heal quickly. It's one of the few essential oils you can use directly on your skin without diluting. Just don't use it if you're allergic to it, but that should go without saying.

Best of luck on your recovery!

Both of my grandparents have had skin cancer, they also both had the same procedure you had. AFter several years their once large and noticeable scars are now pretty much gone. They have not had any problems since. I hope you will feel a little better knowing so many have gone through the same ordeal. Stay well!
