What I've Been Knitting

For the longest time now I've been wanting a pair of hand warmers. The only thing holding me back was that I thought I was too old for them. I know this might sound strange but for some reason I associate handwarmers with teenagers. I really have no explanation for this. Maybe it's because I've never seen an adult wearing them. Come to think of it, I've never seen anyone wearing them. I'm sure our California weather has something to do with that. Anyways, I decided to get over the whole age appropriate dilemma and knit a pair. Let me just say, I'm so happy I did! They are cozy and warm and will be perfect for when I walk the kids to school. I even find myself wanting to wear them in the house.

There are so many patterns out there for hand warmers, fingerless gloves, fingerless mittens or any other name they go by. I found the pattern for these on the Purl Bee. I made mine two inches shorter than the pattern called for. The pattern is very easy to follow. If anyone is curious, I used Debbie Bliss aran tweed 100% wool to knit them.

While searching for patterns, I stumbled across a pattern on CRAFT for the handwarmers Alice wore in New Moon. Since The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn just recently came out, I thought these might be fun to knit for a Twilight fan. Might make a nice Christmas present too. Just thought I would share.

Photo credits go to my six year old daughter. I had her take the pictures since I obviously couldn't use my hands. I had to do some editing but I think they came out quite nice. Plus, she had fun using mommy's camera.

funny how you associate those mitts with teenagers as I used to associate them with old grandmas.... But I went along and made myself 2 pair last year and dying to make more.... (though not this pattern, as you said there are many out there!!) Believe me I wear them inside too... especially in the deep winter when joints are painful from too much crocheting or knitting or embroidery or whatever (yes there is such a thing as too much sometimes) it really makes a difference!! Enjoy your beautiful mitts!!! next step make a pair with a thumb!!! ;D

Your mitts are so beautiful!
I just learned to knit about a month ago (haven't posted any projects yet) so I am looking for intro projects to develop my skills, I hope to make some fingerless mittens soon. I wish you and your family a blessed Thanksgiving.

ana @ I made it so,

Yes, I'm on Ravelry. Just so you know, I'm not so great about checking my messages on there. There's just too many social networks to keep up with!

Pfffttt to teen knits --- I say knit what your heart desires.

I wear the grodiest pair of acrylic no-tip mits indoors because I have joint issues in my hands. Keeping them warm means hours more knitting for me. Viva la knit-mistress!

I love it! I always wear my fingerless gloves because it is freezing at my job! :) You have awesome knitting skills... Seriously.

They're beautiful and I really like the colour you chose. Congratulations too to your daughter for her photography.

They seem to be very warm ! And they're so nice ! I did some a few months ago but they're too big, so I have to unknit (?) and knit again. Have a good day !

I love these--I have many pairs of fingerless gloves that get worn indoors as often as outdoors (we live in a drafty little antique house). My daughter will go to college next year in the far north of Vermont, and she has asked me to knit multiple pairs of these for her before she leaves for school. Since I'll sleep better knowing she isn't freezing her fingers off, this is a wish I'll happily grant!
