Pictured above are some of the kirigami projects from the book. It comes with templates printed on the paper so you know exactly where to cut.
And here are the tabi socks. I liked that they had kokeshi dolls on them. Tabi socks are designed to be worn with sandals; that's why the toes look a little funny. I actually bought a pair for myself too.
On to the Giveaway. . .one lucky reader will win Kirigami-Chic Japanese Patterns and a pair of tabi socks. To enter, please share if you've ever seen tabi socks before or if you wear them. One entry per household. Please leave an email address so I can contact you if you win. The last day to enter the contest is Sunday, January 6 2013. I'll announce the winner Monday, January 7 2013 on this post. If I do not hear back from the winner after two weeks, I will choose a new winner. Open to everyone. International friends welcome :)
As always, thank to everyone who participated. I loved reading all your comments!
My daughter is preparing for an eight-week immersive Japanese language course in Japan this summer. She would be thrilled to win these! :O)
ReplyDeleteI've seen this kind of socks in pictures before. I bet they'd work with flip-flops, too! lol
I've never seen those socks, but would love to have them ... I wear flip flops int he winter, and those would help warm my toes in Iowa.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen these socks, but they are hilarious! (And my daughter would never ever ever take them off.) Man, I wish we had a Daiso...
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know about those socks until you showed them! But that's a clever idea, if you wear sandals a lot. :) Great, really. :)

Hi and a Happy New Year for you and your family. I know these socks but never had ones. I just use flip flops on summer and don't have socks to use with it.
ReplyDeleteI have black tabi socks with a lucky neko (cat) design.
ReplyDeleteKamahina808@gmail.com
I've seen tabi socks quite often, since I know a few kimono-wearing people. I also own one pair of white ones, but I've only worn them twice since they're my only ones and I want them to be still clean when I finally get to wear my self-sewn kimono out for the first time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway! I've seen those socks but I've never tried them on. They are very cute!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen these. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeletethis book looks great ! and I love those socks to wear with flip flops (I received socks like that as gifts long ago, but they're now out of use !)
ReplyDeleteOH those socks bring back the memories! We had them when we were kids! LOVED them, thought we were just so cool cuz we had them! How fun to see them again.
ReplyDeletemrstrem@yahoo.com
Seen them/know of them but I've never worn them. Closest I've come is probably toe socks? Daiso is a store I desperately wish would come to the East Coast...
ReplyDeleteI have seen them when reading about Japan and think they are cute. The book looks so interesting. Thank you for a chance to win!
ReplyDeleteOMG OMG OMG- I've had several pairs of tabi sock patterns in my queue on Ravelry since I joined in '09!

I just need to be a better knitter to make them LOL!

Think I saw them in a movie with wooden flip-flop type shoes. Happy New Year (mine would be a bit happier if I win)
ReplyDeleteThese look great! I think they would be lots of fun! My daughter would just adore the socks because she wears flip flops all year around, sun or snow!
ReplyDeleteAwesome book and socks!!! I've never tried those kind of socks, but would love to try them. And the craft book looks interesting.
ReplyDeletecindygross12@gmail.com
what cute socks! the book looks great. i have never worn them, but they are very cool looking.ankeney121@charter.net
ReplyDeleteThe Kirigami book looks wonderful I would like to give it a try and the socks are so cute. We get plain solid coloured ones here in India called slipper socks so these would be a wonerful addition to my sock collection. In fact I would give them to my mother who wears them all year round.
ReplyDeleteThanks for having such a wonderful giveaway. Happy New Year.
I know what tabi socks are but I've never worn them. As a side note, for my high school graduation (I'm from Hawaii), we were supposed to wear white shoes and some people voted to wear tabi but in the end we went with regular sandals. I'm still bummed that the tabi didn't win.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the cool giveaway!

My dear Japanese friend wore tabi soxs all the time when in our college dorm here in the States which brings back great memories of a great girl. I haven't seen these soxs in fifty years. Hope I can win them as I always wanted a pair.
ReplyDeletedott.baumann@gmail.com
I see them in the Japanese fashion mags I like to get (Kera, Zipper, Mini, etc) and in street fashion. THESE ARE SO CUTE! <3

I've seen them somewhere and thought they looked pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteI have seen these in Japan when I went for my bro's wedding last summer. But alas, at size 10 1/2 Women's/42-43, I doubt these cuties would fit me! They are sweet though, and the book looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI have a friend and her husband had to go to Asia for work several times. They have socks - like those, but with every toe separated - since I can remember (at least 11 years!)
ReplyDeleteThe papercut book looks wonderful!!
Warm wishes from sunny ( for now) Netherlands
Bonjour,
ReplyDeleteJe ne savais même pas que cela pouvait exister, des chaussettes pour tong, c'était une bonne idée !

I have never seen these socks before. But I love toe socks so I would so wear these. Love to win the give away. The craft book looks interesting too. Rickimoo@cox.net
ReplyDeleteOMG! Kirigami book AND Tabi socks! Love'em both!
ReplyDeleteThe book looks beautiful! I've been trying other Japanese arts - shibori is my latest obsession. I've heart of Kirigami, but haven't tried it yet. I'm putting it on my short list of Japanese arts to try! I visited Japan in 2009, 2 weeks in Kyoto, and a few days in Nara and Yokohama. What a beautiful country, what beautiful people! And I purchased pairs of tabi socks as gifts to special people in my life. They're another thing I'd like to try! Oh! I'm making a kimono for my daughter's birthday, made of habotai and crepe de chine silks, all natural dyes, no chemical mordants or dyes - my daughter's skin is very sensitive to dyes. I've drafted the pattern, with instructions on construction from the book "making kimono and japanese clothes", by Jenni Dobson. An inspirational, beautiful book, and useful, too!
ReplyDeleteHello, I have never seen these tabi socks before but I like it!!!!
ReplyDeletealmukar@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteHello! I have seen these type of socks in pictures only. The Kirigami craft book looks terrific. Thank you for giving us a chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI've seen socks like these, but I've never had the pleasure to wear them. The book looks fabulous.
ReplyDeletepivotalxpressions@bigpond.com
I received a pair of tabi from a former college roommate who was from Japan. Luckily I have small feet because they're really comfortable! That pair is so adorable and the kirigami book looks really interesting, I'd love to try some of the projects. I make a lot of paper snowflakes (you may have seen them on my twitter account @kiwiberry) but would love to expand my kirigami repertoire.
ReplyDeleteKeeping my fingers crossed for this one! My email address is luckysushi@gmail.com :)
I have not seen such cute socks yet! They would be great for my birthday right on 6th of January.

ReplyDeleteu2robles@sbcglobal.net
I once had a pair of tabi socks which I got from Muji. They were orange and pink, but were nowhere near as cute as yours with the kokeshi dolls.
ReplyDeleteLove your site. Your fairy jars brought me here a while back. If i had a pair of socks like that, i'd never take off mt flip flops! cute!

The socks are adorable and my niece would love them. I've not seen them before. Happy New Year! I check your site often and really appreciate all your craftiness!
ReplyDeleteI love the tabi socks. When I was in Japan I bought myself many too. I got ome with bunnies and with the Mt. Fuji on them. But I've never seen any with kokeshi dolls yet. They are absolutely lovely!
ReplyDeletemimchan7 at hotmail.com
I love tabi socks! I prefer them to the toe socks because I find they are easier to wear and are more comfortable.
ReplyDeleteThey are hard to get in Germany, though. There is a Japanese toe socks shop in Berlin, where I live, but they don't really sell tabi socks and only offer them occasionaly. So whenever I go to Japan I always stock up on them!
I wish we had a Daiso in Germany...
reku@ironlungs.de
I own two pairs of tabi socks (one dark moss green pair with a plum blossom on a branch in black silhouette and a pair with chrysanthemum blossom on white). I also own a couple pairs of traditional/formal tabi and a several pairs of five-toe socks.

ReplyDeleteanarchy.red@gmail.com
I saw those kind of socks but I never wore it, cause there were socks uniform at the school. and after graduated, I rarely use any socks.
ReplyDeletezuperdzigh[at]yahoo[dot]com
These socks would work GREAT with "flip-flops!" So pretty, too!And my feet are always cold, so I try to jam my toes (with thin socks) onto flip-flops already - or go barefoot and FREEZE (it gets cold with bare wood floors, in the winter, in northern Illinois)!!
