Party Origami! Party Origami is a booklet with step-by-step directions for 14 party decorations. It also comes with 75 sheets of pretty double sided paper. To celebrate, I thought I would have a little giveaway.

Thank you to everyone who entered. I was surprised to learn many of you learned to fold either a crane or boat as your first origami piece. For those curious, the first thing I learned to fold was a cootie catcher.

ReplyDeleteThe first origami I ever learned to fold was a little jumping frog out of an index card. I must have made a hundred of them. I colored the index cards with all kinds of different designs and held jumping contests with my sister.

The first origami I remember making (as a child) was a cup. Actually filled it with water and sipped it out. I felt so fancy. :P

Well I remember the first one I made successfully was the piano (a variation on the house fold). I had wanted to make the balloon but I could never get it folded right to be able to blow it up. I had a great origami book as a kid which had the actual origami piece glued onto the page with instructions. It also came with solid two color paper which was a novelty then.

The first origami I folded was a Ball! Me and my sis had a great time playing with the self-folded origami Ball :) Those were the days.

I grew up folding hats, which you can then turn into a boat. But THEN I found an origami book at the library...

ReplyDeleteMy mom taught me how to make a boat out of a gum wrapper. I still remember that.
Not sure if this counts as origami, but I remember folding gum wrappers into a paper chain. I moved on to cranes shortly after that.

This was in art class around 3rd grade and I'd had no prior experience, so you can imagine the outcome! hahaha

as a very young child, I learned to fold a boat with my mother, and nothing else, until I was 18 and was given a book about origami animals !

ReplyDeleteMy dad showed me how to fold a paper crane out of a dollar bill when I was a kid. He told me that when he was in college he was having trouble in a class. He was in that class making a crane out of a dollar (which would explain the trouble). His teacher told him after class that if he made her a crane out of a bigger bill, he might do better in the class. One hundred dollars later, he had an A. True story. Good luck with your book!

My first origami was a house. I learned it at the kindergarden where everybody speaks in alien language (I just moved from a foreign country), so up till now I'm not sure whether it was an origami or not :)

Hmm... it's a toss between paper airplanes and what I call a "coin-coin", which is french for one of those foldy games you put on your fingers and open and shut them while counting and at the end you open it up to reveal messages on the inside... Know what I mean?
