Christmas Card Luminaries

I'm always saving my old Christmas cards in hopes of a good craft project. Well, for some reason I got the idea of making them into luminaries today. And as you can see, it worked! They honestly look better in person. The photos just don't do them justice. These would be great for a Christmas Swap, they fold flat. Directions below

Supplies:
Four Christmas Cards ( try picking ones with similar colors)
small hole punch
embroidery thread (coordinate the color with your cards)
needle
pin

1. Cut all four cards into 3 1/2" by 5" rectangles. You can really do any size you want

2. Poke holes with the pin in the picture where you would like more light to show through (exp. lights on the Christmas tree, outline an image, frame an image with a square) refer to pictures

3. Punch holes on the left and right sides of cards. Make a template hole punch card so the holes will line up for sewing.

4. Blanket stitch all four cards together, one at a time (should look like a cube)

5. Add a tea light candle in glass holder in the center of the luminary. Done

Success tips: *Don't punch holes to close to the edges or they will rip while sewing
*Don't use images with writing on the back of them (it will show through when lit)

So beautiful. I've made our Christmas cards every year for a while now, but sometimes I can't resist those day-after-Christmas sales and buy boxes of cute cards that I never mail. Now I know what to do with them!

What a wonderful idea! This would be a great project with the kids, too. I'm so glad you dropped by my blog so I could find these.

BTW - my paper stars were made using Stampin' Up! patterned papers. :D Thanks for dropping by. I look forward to checking out the crafts at your place.

Dianne :-)

thanks for popping in and saying hello! These remind me of making things with my Grandma when I was little (which is a good thing!)

Beautiful! And not just for Christmas cards. I'm thinking for some of the other beautiful cards that I've received. Thanks so much. Now I can get them out and enjoy them with candlelight again. :-)
