Zakka Neck Warmer

I decided to try my hand at making a neck warmer. It's a nice little project that you can knit up in a day or two. Directions Below.

Supplies
Size 10 needles
100% cotton 4 PLY yarn
large sewing needle
button of your choice

SK2P - Slip 1, knit 2 together, pass slip stitch over k2tog

Directions

Cast on 19 stitches

Row 1 - Purl
Row 2 - K1, *yo, k1, SK2P, k1, yo, k1; repeat from * to end

Repeat rows 1 and 2 for desired length (neck warmer should measure no longer than one inch longer than neck circumference.

last row - Purl
bind off, leave a tail to sew button
Sew the button to the end that you binded off.

The eyelets in the pattern create natural button holes, so you don't have to add any.
* If using cotton, remember it will stretch out a little.

Thanks hanging out with my blog for a little bit the other day. I am truly inspired by you and your arts+crafts projects. They suit me and my -gotta start and finish things today or they don't get done- life right now! I love the scarf. Lovely little thing-- gorgeous photos, and can't wait to search for the perfect button to fasten it with. It's all about the button for me right now...

nifty! where'd you get that stylin' button?

I got the button at an antique shop. One of the vendors there has a giant bin of buttons you can pick and choose from. That was the only one.

I've made one and really like it, thanks for sharing the pattern.

As the pattern isn't clear about gauge, or if the cotton yarn is doubled or not, I did a bit of experimenting. Here's what I came up with. I used US11/8mm needles and a lovely soft and fluffy Sulka 60% merino wool 20% alpaca 20% silk yarn.

I'm not a great knitter, but was still able to make one of these in about 3 hours. Great last minute Christmas presents.

Hey there
I knit this up the other day, as my fist ever project! Turned out lovely, I used a large coconut button.

However i did start it several times, becuase i was getting very frustrated at how i was gaining a stitch. However when i finally took a hard look at the pattern and started over by casting on with only 17 instead of 19, and it knit up perfectly.
As this was my first project i`m not sure if i`m just doing something wrong or not.

Well, I started this a bucnh of times and couldn't make it come out by the second row. Then I read Marie S.'s comment and now I think I can get it using 17 stitches cast on. If it is too skinny, I will try 25.

If 17 stitches works for you, then do that. But it's not a typo, it should read cast on 19 stitches.
