Hand Sewn Bird Ornament

If this bird looks familiar to you, that's because you probably saw it on Spool back in 2008 (has it been that long?). I've always admired the pattern but was never sure what to do with the birds until now.

For this ornament I shrunk down the pattern to 75% because I was concerned it would be too big for a Christmas ornament. Now that I've made it, I think the original size will work just fine.

For the pattern visit the Spool Blog and look for the bird pattern in the right sidebar.

What ornaments are you guys making for Christmas? Don't pretend you haven't thought about it. I know some of you started in July or earlier!

It's so funny you posted this today, I have made a few of these birds [post here http://letsgoflyakiteuptothehighestheight.blogspot.com/2010/04/eco-bird-feeder.html ] and have made up my mind to to do an entire Christmas tree with them and paper birdhouses out of Christmas cards (using this template http://nicholeheady.typepad.com/capture_the_moment/2009/05/introducing-bird-watching-additions.html )... I may be overly ambitious, but that's the plan. I really like the bell detail. I am going to copy that! So yeah, I have thought about it.

Perfect idea for an ornament! IMagine a whole tree of your birds. Lately I've been turning pendants into ornaments, cause it's easy and it's not really cheating, is it?

100 days tomorrow! I have so many things I'd like to make that I'm probably going to end up overwhelmed and do nothing... Which is fine I suppose, we have a great excuse, our 3rd baby is due a week after!

Your bird is helping me get into the mindset of Christmas. Gotta get on the ball because it is just around the corner for those of us committed to only giving handmade presents.

Hugs,
Genie
