Washi Tape Stop Motion Video

It should be no surprise by now that I like all things washi tape.  So when I stumbled upon this stop motion video by MT Tape, I had to share. The MT Youtube channel has other videos as well.  I haven't viewed all of them but it looks like most of the videos showcase their events. Enjoy.

Hearts and Crafts: The People That Make Hermes

I was browsing the Hermes site when I stumbled upon the film Hearts and Crafts: The People That Make Hermes.  The film is by Frédéric Laffont and Isabelle Dupuy-Chavanat which documents some of the artists behind the Hermes products.  In the film, the artists share about there craft and you get to see them in their work environment.

I realize this is another promotional piece for Hermes but it's well done and quite interesting.  It makes me wish I had just one craft that I was dedicated to.  I feel like I'm all over the place when it comes to creating.  That's always been somewhat of a craft insecurity for me.

How about you?  Are you strong in one craft genre or do you find yourself trying/doing it all?

Origami + Ribbon = Oribbon

Sometimes a craft product comes along that's so unique, so inspiring, it stops me in my tracks. Today that craft is Oribbon.  Oribbon is a strip of sticker ribbon that's scored so you can easily fold it into geometric shaped ribbons.  The ribbons can then be applied to gifts and such.  Below is video so you can see the craft in action.  Tell me what you think.

Paper Craft Stop Motion by Odland

This charming paper-craft stop motion video was directed by Vincent Pianina and Lorenzo Papace for the french band Odland.  Without trying to sound cheesy, this video is absolutely dreamy.  I hope you enjoy it too.

Carp Kite Drawing Song for Boy's Day

Learn how to draw a carp kite with this cute Ekaki Uta (Drawing Song).  It's another easy but fun way to celebrate the Japanese holiday Boy's Day (May 5th).  Don't worry that it's not in English, you or your children will still be able to follow the directions.  My children really like these videos.  In fact, when I was composing this post, I found my son behind me hoping I was going to play the video.  Along with the carp kite, there are lots of other drawing song videos to choose from.  The ninja is our personal favorite.  What's yours?

Happy Hinamatsuri

Happy Hinamatsuri! Here's a cute Ekaki Uta (drawing song) that teaches children how to draw a Hinamtsuri doll set. Songs like these are created to help children remember how to draw a specific image. You can find more videos like this on YouTube.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Are You Ready For Hinamatsuri?

Music video about Girl's Day. There's a giant doll display in the background.

For some reason the Japanese holiday Hinamatsuri (Girl's Day, March 3rd) always sneaks up on me. But this year I'm ready, I already put up the doll display! I know it's bad luck if you have the display up past the holiday but is there anything wrong with putting it up early? Lets say early February?

If you want to celebrate the holiday as well, here are few links to get you started.

Alma - Animated Short Film

Alma from Rodrigo Blaas on Vimeo.

Normally I don't care for creepy stories but this film captivated me with its visual charm. Warning: it is a little scary but it won't make you jump out of your seat, nothing gory either.

For more information about the short film visit the official Alma site.
